e-learning Overview
What is e-learning?
According to development experts, e-learning is becoming an increasingly-accepted method of providing training within commercial organisations, and increasingly so within schools. But just what is 'e-learning'? What are its parameters, its constraints, its future possibilities?
The e-coaches programme is based on the principles of e-learning, so it's important to be clear about what 'e-learning' means in this context.
e-learning isn't...
Explaining our idea of e-learning involves dispelling a popular myth: e-learning is not the same thing as self-study. At e-coaches, we operate from a broader definition of e-learning, as the use of the Internet and computer technologies to support the learning process. This builds on the concepts of coaching and mentoring, action learning sets, virtual classrooms, on-line diagnostic tools, and repositories of well presented, accessible knowledge, supported by examples of best practice.
Resources
Creating good quality e-learning resources requires an understanding of personal learning preferences. (Read more here) The Internet can deliver information directly to individuals - so, given the right understanding of the people, the technology and the content, it is possible to deliver learning to individuals in an individual way.
Flexible content, tailored for different learning styles and personality preferences, is just one part of the picture. The challenge for those creating online learning design is to understand a client's organisational requirements, constraints and attitudes, and then map alternative ways of presenting and navigating through content that mirror a client's preferences.
The e-coaches programme provides support to those creating the e-learning experience, so that it becomes more efficient and more effective, and appeals to more people.
