Type and stereotype in the training room

We’v recently been running a survey on Type and Stereotype in the Training Room.

Howard included the results in his presentation at the Learning Technologies Conference on the 1st February.

“I made the possibly contentious comment that those with a temperament most likely to be attracted to teaching or training are most likely to set up classroom situations and activities that are not conducive to the learning of those of different temperaments.

I was asked what we should do differently as a result of this research. My reply:
1) ensure classroom trainers understand their own type and how to help those of different types (work being undertaken by e-coaches)
2) ensure learning designers create material that offers options within the framework of the MBTI (as documented in Individual Preferences in E-learning).”

You can download the presentation slides and narrative here:

And you’ll find more information on type and learning at www.yourpreferences.net

We’ll keep you informed as our research continues.

Transferring Skills - new presentation

Technology seems to have all the answers nowadays when it comes to delivering training. But if technology does have all the answers what was the question? What is the best practice when it comes to choosing between learning platforms? What do you need to know about blended learning?

This seminar investigated the many and various ways of delivering learning for skills transfer. The day covered : -

· Are learning and skills the same thing? Why is everyone so interested in skills recently?
· What best practice exists when it comes to delivering skills?
· How does the delivery platform affect the process of transferring skills?

Many people forget that coaching and mentoring can now be part of the learning platform mix. What are the pros and cons and how are these methods best used? This is the presentation on the role of coaching and mentoring and transferring skills I gave at the seminar of the Institute of IT Training, 11th March 2005 .
